Process + Sustainability

How they do it ; they save tonnes of over run, out of use, faulty and wasted frames in china that were destined for landfill. They optimize for the most carbon conservative strategy by collecting these sunglasses close to the source and taking them to their facility where they enter their unique recycling process. The frames are broken down and processed into their raw materials and are then ready to become a pair of Szades.

Why plastic: plastic is the problem in the eyewear industry. Period. Not acetate, not metal frames, not wood... plastic. They don't use bio materials or anything plant based since they don't want harvest the earth's precious natural resources. Instead they choose to utilize what's already there, and save it from ending up in landfill for millions of years. Recycle your Szades and break the cycle with them.

Why china: this is where the root of the problem is. If you want to break the cycle and make a difference, you have to find the source of the problem and start there.

Why they’re for real: their factory has been GRS certified. this means the recycling process and material supply chain of their Szades have been audited by the Global Recycling Standard, an independent body that is the world standard for recycled materials.

What about the lenses: their lenses are not recycled, but are crafted of the highest quality tested and rated polycarbonate for the ultimate clarity, structural integrity, robustness and protection.
